I am 26-year old female. I go for a jog or a walk at around 7 in the morning on an empty stomach as my friend said that one should not eat anything before exercising. By the time I have my breakfast, it s almost 10 am. I feel very exhausted by the time I reach office. Is it because I am going for a walk on an empty stomach? Please help.

It could be due to working out on an empty stomach or the long gap between your breakfast and the time you wake up. Dr Akshat Chaddha, Hope and Care clinic, Navi Mumbai says, As there is a long gap between the last meal that you had (dinner) and the morning breakfast, most people experience a drop in the blood glucose level in the morning. And hence, not eating breakfast early in the morning or working out on an empty stomach is not a very good idea as it further fluctuates the blood glucose level, making you feel lethargic or tired at the start of the day. Starting your day on a tired note not only makes you feel stressed but also makes you less productive at work as well. Hence, one should never miss their breakfast nor should they workout or exercise on an empty stomach. Here's more on what and when to eat before a morning run or jog.

You don t have to eat a stomach-filling breakfast at the beginning of the day as you go for a walk. Instead, eating a handful or nuts, say 4 5 almonds or walnuts or drinking a glass of warm water, lemon and honey or a fruit which is high in sugar like banana, pear or apple might help. By doing so, you get the much-needed kick to start your day. Also, read about healthy shots to start your mornings with a bang!

Another common mistake that could be making you tired is a long gap between the time you wake up and the time you have your first meal of the day. Most women have a busy day, be it getting their kids ready for school, or rushing to the office or preparing breakfast when pressed for time. And hence, they skip breakfast. However, this should not be the case. According to Dr Chaddha, one should have breakfast within an hour after waking up. And ensure that you should have more proteins and fewer carbohydrates in your breakfast so there is a steady release of glucose throughout the day.
