Have you ever wondered if there is any specific time to have fruits? There is a common misconception that fruits can be consumed at any time of the day. Deepshikha Agarwal, a Mumbai-based dietician and sports nutritionist says, Fruits that are high in calories are best for the mornings as they help to start off your day with a powerful punch of energy, while during the night time, stay away from consuming fruits that are high in calories and acid content. People generally workout early in the mornings and hence, it is recommended to eat fruits that are high in fibre during this time. Fruits that can be consumed in the morning include pears, apples, musk melons, pomegranates and bananas. Avoid citrus fruits in the morning as they may cause acidity (increase the pH levels) when consumed on an empty stomach.

Fruits that are good for mid-meals (between breakfast and lunch)

This is the best time to have citrus fruits like oranges, sweet lime and those containing high levels of vitamin C such as cherries and strawberries. Mangoes are a good option if you’re looking for something to gorge on between meals, as they are rich in antioxidants, high in fibre and high in calories (boost your body).

Fruits to munch on in the evening

Your metabolic rate starts to fall after 6 in the evening, because of which the body s ability to burn those calories slows down. Hence fruits that are high in calories such as mangoes should not be consumed during this time. Instead, you can have a bowl of mixed fruits consisting of watermelon, oranges, cherries, strawberries and high fibre fruits like pears.

Fruits to satiate your night/late night hunger

Many people say that they are dieting and only consume fruits during the night time, but are still unable to lose weight. This is because they choose the wrong fruits at the wrong time. Depending upon the calorie count and nutritional requirement, you can choose fruits that are low in calories and thus aid in weight loss says Deepshika Agarwal.

You can have a bowl of mixed fruits like pomegranates, apples, pears, musk melon and 1-2 pieces of avocado. Try a bowl of pomegranate if you have urinary tract infection, as they help in flushing out the toxins from the body. Fruits such as watermelon, cherries and oranges should be avoided during late nights as they might cause acidity and gas issues.
