Much like our clothes and our breakfast choices, most of us tend to follow the same routine even when it comes to lifting weights. While lifting the same weight can be comforting, but by not changing the weight you are not challenging the body and hence you are missing out on the benefits. Sagar, Pednekar, fitness expert Gold s Gym India tells you why it is not a good idea to lift the same weight again and again.
Your body tends to adapt to the resistance when you lift the same weight week after week, and thus you will not see any muscular gains. It is the same as running the same distance every day where you no longer challenge your body, so you do not see your body improve. When you train with weights, your muscles grow. Also, it is important that you gradually keep increasing the weight with which you train. As you train, your strength will increase. For instance, if you are doing lateral pulldowns with 30 kilos of weight, try and increase it to 35 kilos the next time. If your goal is to get a toned body, you have to increase your resistance. If you can lift two more reps than you intended during two consecutive training sessions, it is the time that you add more weight to your workout sessions. That being said, there is just one perk for people who don t change the resistance, and that is the improvement in muscular endurance. So if you can handle 16 repetitions of shoulder press where initially you could not even handle 12 repetitions, know that your muscular endurance has improved. If you stick to the same resistance, increasing your repetitions can be the best way to track progress.
Tip: Following your regimen may seem incredibly difficult if you don t believe that you will one day be able to transform your body.
