Ayurveda for weight loss is very efficient because it ensures holistic well being as well. The thousands of year old traditional Indian health and medical system has a host of remedies and treatments for a variety of diseases and conditions. For weight loss, Ayurveda focuses on three core areas: Aahar (dietary modification), Vihar (lifestyle modification) and Chikitsa (medication and Panchakarma).

Kadhas or concoctions are one of the most popular Ayurvedic remedies that combine potent ingredients to treat specific conditions and areas of the body. Ayurvedic kadhas can be an excellent tool for weight loss, in addition to proper diet and exercise. According to Ayurveda, one of the main reasons for being overweight is aggravated Kapha. This makes you lethargic and slows down your metabolism. In order to lose weight, it is important to balance your Kapha. Ayurvedacharya Dr Partap Chauhan, director, Jiva Ayurveda says these Ayurvedic kadhas for weight loss can be very effective:

1) Triphala churna kadha for weight loss: Triphala or triphala churna consists of equal quantities of three fruits - amla, baheda and harad. Triphla is great for various clinical conditions. Here are the health benefits of triphala churna. Each of the ingredients corresponds to three different bodily doshas-vata, pitta, and kapha. While harada has body purifying effects, amla has laxative effects and vibhitika is known for removing kapha imbalances.

To make the triphala kadha: Mix 2 tsp of triphala churna in a glass of water. Let it soak overnight. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach.

2) Trikatu kadha for weight loss: Trikatu is made of equal parts of black pepper, long pepper and dried ginger. Since it has hot ingredients, it works well to improve your metabolism. Trikatu also helps you deal with cholesterol issues, heart conditions and problems related to the digestive system.

To make the trikatu kadha: Mix 2 tsp of trikatu churna in a glass of water and let it soak overnight. You can add honey to this if the trikatu churna is too spicy for you. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach.

In order to lose weight, it is important to be diligent in your efforts. Make sure you have any one kadha every day and you're sure to see favourable results in about a couple of months.
