You ve obviously heard the term couch potato. Well that s what you ll look like if you continue munching or eating in front of the TV. A study published in the International Journal of Communication and Health suggests that people who watch excessive television are less conscious about their eating habits and proper nutrition. You are usually engaged in distracted eating when you are watching television. This means that you fail to realize how much or what you are eating. In fact, the body fails to recognize the satiety signals because you are so engrossed in watching TV. You obviously don t realize that you are done with your meal and might even end up asking for another portion. Here are the health hazards of watching TV. Another study reveals that dining or eating while watching TV can lead to obesity in kids. Did you know childhood obesity is an emerging health concern in India? Sitting in front of the TV for long hours and eating slowly, slows down your metabolic rate and leads to further accumulation of fats. Watching television is also associated with binge eating too. After all, who doesn t love a tub of popcorn or some fried snacks while watching a movie or game. If at all you need to watch your favourite sport or movie, choose from these healthy snack recipes. So if at all you are planning to lose weight, sit with your family and enjoy your meal instead of being a sitting duck. You can also choose to eat in a small plate and take very small portions if at all you are forced to eat in front of the TV.
