If you are a beginner, blocks will help you stay more comfortable in the yoga poses. For example, while performing setubandhasana, when you place a block behind your back, you will give your back a support and will thus be able to hold the pose for longer. Beginners can also use blocks as a tool to prevent injuries. Here are 21 variations of yoga you could try.

Blocks help you go deeper into the poses

Blocks can help you modify the yoga poses and sink deeper into the poses. For example, placing a block beyond your reach in poses such as paschimottanasana will help you to stretch further your muscles increasing your flexibility. They aid to open deeply certain parts of the body while performing the yoga asanas.

Blocks make the yoga poses challenging

Blocks can help you progress into the more challenging variations of the yoga poses helping you build better strength and balance. Try performing bakasana by supporting your body weight on the block and you will feel the difference.

The blocks are made of different materials like bamboo, cork, and foam and come in various shapes and sizes. You can start with a four-inch block, and once you get more comfortable with using blocks, you can add more blocks to your yoga practice.
