Why you need to eat more fruits
To understand the importance of fruits, we need to delve a little into the human psyche and understand why we crave certain food items. Evolutionary psychologists believe that we as a species are innately geared to crave sugar because it provides glucose our primary source of energy that allows us to function properly. Earlier, the only source of sugar was mostly fruits and they allowed our forefathers to consume an adequate amount of sugar along with other vital nutrients. However, easy availability of sugar has led to high consumption in its crystalline form and is also routinely consumed in cakes, chocolates, sweetmeats, ice-creams and every other sweet food items that are considered a treat. All of them contain a high amount of sugar and other fats and absolutely no other nutritional value. This has led to an exponential rise in obesity-related disorders like diabetes and hypertension across the world including India. The only solution is to going back what our forefathers did eating fresh fruits.
