Love handles? Get rid of them with this easy yoga pose

This is an excellent yoga asana to stretch and strengthen your back, hips, thighs and legs.

Utthita trikonasana or the extended triangle pose is a great pose to get rid of your love handles. The asana also stretches and strengthens your back, hips, thighs and legs. The pose stimulates the abdominal organs and improves digestion. Plus, it can strengthen your spine and help relieve a backache. This asana is also one of the best yoga poses to beat stress and prevent osteoporosis. Regular practice of this pose will also help you deal with anxiety.

  • Stand straight by keeping your feet wide apart.
  • Then turn your right foot about 90 degrees towards your right and keep your left foot at a 45-degree angle. Distribute your weight evenly on both your feet.
  • Inhale and as you exhale lift your left arm straight towards the ceiling and bend sideways towards your right. Make sure that you do not bend your right knee. Try to touch your right foot with your right hand.
  • Inhale and extend your left arms over your head and keep it near your left ear.
  • Hold this position for a few deep, consecutive breaths.
  • To release, exhale and slowly rise.


  • If you are a beginner and find it difficult to get into the pose, you can rest your back against a wall as it will help you remain steady.

Word of caution:

  • Avoid getting into the posture if you are suffering from diarrhoea, low blood pressure and headache.
  • Do not perform this pose if you have a heart condition.
