The upward salute or urdhva hastasana is one of the vital poses of surya namaskar or sun salutation. It is a standing pose that wonderfully stretches the sides of your body, the shoulders, torso and your belly. It properly aligns the spinal column and aids in improving your posture. When practised regularly, this asana can aid in improving digestion and decreasing fatigue. It can create a space in the lungs and chest which can help deal with asthma and congestion. This simple pose can help you feel rejuvenated by relieving your stress. Here is another yoga asana to relieve stress.

Steps to do the pose:

  • Stand by keeping your feet together and balancing your weight equally on both your feet.
  • Breathing in, lift your arms and back, keeping your biceps close to your ears.
  • Stretch your whole body up from the heels to the tips of your fingers.
  • You can push your pelvis forward but make sure that your fingers are reaching up instead of bending backwards. Hold this position for 30-60 seconds.
  • Breathing out, get your arms back down while you are in standing pose.

Repeat this pose 10 times every day for best results.
