Sahaja mayurasana or the easy peacock pose is one of the most effective yoga poses for detoxifying your body. The liver, spleen and the pancreas are revitalised with this pose. It is also an excellent pose to tone your arms, lose weight from your shoulders and define your collar bones. The forward bending movement in this posture improves the blood circulation to your face and gives you a glowing skin. Plus, this asana also helps relieve stress.

Steps to perform the pose:

  • Stand straight with your feet hip-width apart.
  • Now take a deep breath in and clasp your hands behind your back.
  • As you exhale, move your arms away from your back so that your shoulder blades are pointing at each other. Gently, arch your back a little.
  • Now inhale and start bending forward. Keep your back straight and your hands clasped.
  • Keep moving your arms away from your body and let your head hang freely. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds while you take consecutive deep breaths.
  • To release, exhale and slowly rise. Lower your hands and relax.

Word of caution:

  • Avoid this pose if you have any shoulder injury.
  • Also do not try to get into the pose if you are pregnant or are menstruating.
