Padangustha dhanurasana or big toe bow pose also improves your posture while enhancing your flexibility. It stretches your neck and pain helping ease back pain. If you are constipated, this pose will help regulate your bowel movements. One of the most impressive benefits of this pose is that it stimulates the reproductive organs of a person and beats stress and fatigue, says yoga expert Pragya Bhatt. Apart from that, it is known to strengthen and stimulate the abdominal organs, helps in relieving menstrual pain and discomfort. Lying down bhadrasana can also help relieve menstrual pain.

Steps to perform:

  • Lie on your stomach with your feet hip-width apart and your arms by the side of your body.
  • Fold your knees and hold your ankles. Breathing in, lift your chest off the ground and pull your legs up and back.
  • Look straight ahead with a smile on your face. Keep the pose stable while paying attention to your breath.
  • Next, wrap your fingers and thumbs around your big toes.
  • Lift your legs and chest further, make your back arch so much so that it seems like it is breaking into a half. Then stretch your hands and continue to take long deep breaths as you relax in this pose.
  • Slow release your hands and bring your legs down.

Tips:

If you are a beginner, take the assistance of your teacher or your yoga partner to lift your torso and legs.

Contraindication:

  • Do not perform this pose if you have any neck or back injury.
  • Avoid this pose if you have a hernia or a heart problem.
  • Do not practice this pose if you have high or low blood pressure
  • Do not try getting into the pose if you have a headache.
  • Also, avoid getting into the pose if you have had an abdominal surgery or are pregnant.
