Are you trying hard to get those toned legs, core and backside? You can do it with ease with just one yoga pose. Dekasana or the aeroplane pose is excellent to tone and strengthen your legs and core. It also strengthens your thigh muscles and stretches your back and core. What s more, this asana works very well to improve your balance, concentration and focus.

Steps to perform:

  • Stand firm on a yoga mat and keep your legs and feet joined. Place your hands on the sides of your body and look straight.
  • Take a deep breath in and raise your hands above your head. Stretch your shoulders, chest and arms upwards.
  • Now raise your heels such that your toes bear the weight of your body. Stretch your body upwards.
  • From tadasana transfer your weight to your right leg and extend your left leg back and up as you bring your torso forward.
  • Now slowly press the big toe of your right foot and lift the arch of your right foot simultaneously. Pushing your big toe will help you balance better in this position. You will also be able to balance better if you use all the muscles of the lifted leg.
  • Stretch and extend your arms behind and slowly lift your left leg higher towards the sky.
  • Hold the pose for as long as you can and slowly bring your foot down. You will be easier for you to balance in the pose if you gaze at a point. Repeat the steps with your other leg.

Contraindications:

  • Do not perform the reverse warrior pose if you have a hip, shoulder or back injury.
  • Also, avoid doing the pose if you are suffering from diarrhoea or high blood pressure.
  • Always stretch within your range to prevent any injury. These yoga asanas will help improve your flexibility.
