Ardha shalabasana or the half locust pose is an excellent asana to work on your hips, buttocks and thighs. It is a great pose to improve digestion and beat constipation. It also improves blood circulation, and regular practice of this pose helps control diabetes.

Steps to do the asana:

  • Lie down on your stomach with your arms by the sides of your body. Keep your legs close to each other and make sure your chin, abdomen and chest are touching the ground.
  • Inhale and raise your left leg backwards. Do not bend your knee and keep your leg straight. Also, make sure that your upper body is flat with your chin on the floor.
  • Hold your leg in the raised position for about 10-15 seconds. Make sure that you take deep, consecutive breaths.
  • Slowly exhale and bring your left leg down.
  • Repeat the steps with your right leg.
  • Perform 3 repetitions of this asana with each leg.
