Not everyone is self-motivated to hit the gym each day or even go for a run or brisk walk. Some of us need that one person to motivate us and coax us to maintain the routine. This is our partner in fitness or gym buddy as you can fondly call them. Even for the self-motivated ones who might go for a workout each day without fail, a good gym partner can inspire you to stretch your limits. Althea Shah, Vice President, Marketing & Fitness Expert, Gold s Gym also suggests finding a partner for the gym.He/she helps break monotony and teams up with you to try a new form of fitness or diet while you are trying to reach your weightloss goals. Here s a diet plan for gym goers by celebrity nutritionist Marika Johansson.

So how do you find a partner? Look for the following attributes in a person you want to partner with in your fitness journey:

1. Punctuality: You don t want to wait for hours for your buddy to join you. He/she should respect your time or moreover you both must fix a time that s suitable for workout such that neither of you is pressurised. However, adhere to the timings. A person who walks in late or wants to leave early and expects you to leave with them will just be a hindrance to your workouts. You both can also follow these tips to reach your weight loss goals.

2. A notch better than you: Don t select someone who like you is new to the game. Such a person might resonate your thoughts when you feel low and you both will end up quitting the workout. Find someone who is a little better than you. A partner who is knowledgeable and experienced with the fitness routine will guide and motivate you at each step. He/she is the one who will be excited to try new things and encourage you to push limits. Begin pushing your limits with these tricep push-ups for toned arms.

3. No verbal diarrhoea: The gym isn t a place to gossip or chitchat. There are bars, lounges and cafes for it (which by the way must be avoided if you are planning to lose weight). Exercise must be taken seriously and your gym partner must be of the same opinion. If he starts bitching about his boss or talking about a football match when you both are doing weights or abdominal exercises, don t call him again.

4. Common goals: He wants to build biceps and you want to tone abs and lose fat. The combination just doesn t work. Your routine, diet and exercises will be different. Then what s the point of a partner. Find someone preferably with exactly the same fitness goals as you. That way, you both can partner in various exercises and guide each other better.

5. Positive: External appreciation is important when you are working out. You don t want someone who doesn t appreciate or notice the small changes that you go through. Just because you aren t able to reach 3 sets of push-ups in the first week doesn t mean you re not meant for the gym. You need a partner who is not just positive about himself but motivates you too. So stay away from crib masters. If you have trouble sticking to your exercise routine, follow these tips by expert Mickey Mehta.
