Eka Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana or raised leg downward facing dog pose is an excellent pose to stretch and tone your hips and hamstrings. It relieves backache, insomnia and headache. The asana also helps lower blood pressure and helps in managing sinusitis and sciatica pain. Performing this pose regularly will also give a healthy glow to your skin.

Raised leg downward facing dog

Steps to do the pose:

  • Lie flat on your stomach.
  • Now, place your palms near your ears and point your toes downwards so that your heels are facing the ceiling.
  • Exhale and push off your hands and raise your body up such that your buttocks are pointing towards the sky. You will look like an inverted 'V' in this pose.
  • Now push back your feet so that they lie flat on the floor. With practice, you will be able to flatten your feet with ease.
  • Keeping your left foot on the floor lift your right leg up and do not rotate your hip.
  • Hold this pose for a few consecutive breaths nad slowly lower your right leg down.
  • Repeat this pose on the other side.

Word of caution:

  • Avoid this pose if you have a wrist injury or carpal tunnel syndrome.
