The prasarita padottanasana or wide-legged forward bend stretches the muscles of the back and the legs. This asana especially stretches the inner part of the thighs helping you tone them. It also stretches the hip, hamstring and calf while reducing fat from these areas. Performing this pose will improve the blood flow to your brain giving you a feeling of tranquillity and repose. It will also help relieve fatigue, mild depression and anxiety. You can also beat stress, fatigue and depression with laughter yoga.
Steps to do the pose:
Stand straight on a yoga mat, and spread your legs apart as far as possible.
Breathe out and place your palms on the floor keeping your legs erect.
Now slowly bend your body forward. You will feel a stretch on your lower back while you do this.
Now press the hips away from the mid- line of your body and bring the upper body down to the floor such that your head touches the mat.
Keep breathing slowly and hold this position for 10-15 seconds.
Now slowly breathe in and come back to the starting position.
