Eat right: With all the running around and responsibilities, it becomes difficult to actually eat healthy. But a healthy breakfast is essential to help you stay healthy, keep your metabolism working optimally and can also help you work-out better. Apart from that, including foods rich in vitamins (especially vitamin B12) and folic acid in your diet helps protect you from heart diseases.

Exercise regularly: Resistance training is perfect for your body, especially when you are close to the fifties. This is because your bones and joints tend to start degrading at this point and resistance training has been known to help strengthen your muscles, reduce aches and pains and prevent the onset of arthritis. Apart from that, you could also do low impact exercises like swimming, Pilates and walking. Remember that if you want to move on to lifting weights and have had injuries, it is best you speak to your doctor and hire a good trainer to work out without damaging your body further. Also, if you are just hopping on to the fitness bandwagon, remember to take it easy and pace yourself. Start slow with moderate forms of exercise and move on to more intense workouts.

Stay hydrated: Hydration is absolutely essential not only when you are working but also throughout the day. Drinking enough water helps all your body's processes perform optimally and reduces the chances of injuries. But you must also remember to skip having too much of tea, coffee, alcohol and energy drinks as they do tend to dehydrate you. You may also like to read about these benefits of drinking water.

Get regular medical checkups: No matter how pointless you think getting medical checkups might be, know that as you inch closer to 50, your body needs to be constantly monitored for any ailments. Apart from that, it is also essential that you check for your fitness and overall health so that you don't end up aggravating a condition you already have, or cause one to occur.
