So you have been fasting all month so it is natural for you to wanting to indulge in yummy treats. What you need to remember is that your body has adapted to a month-long schedule of Ramadan and a sudden change in diet can put your body in shock causing indigestion and bloating. Nutritionist Dr Neha Gupta says, Most people tend to indulge in oily foods after Ramzan, which cause various stomach complications like acidity or indigestion. And this is the reason; you need to make wise food choices. Here are a few tips from her to help you out:
#1: Start your day with fresh fruit or a glass of freshly prepared fruit juice. It is best to eat a banana, apple or sweet lime as fruits will not only make you feel full but also refresh your body by providing sufficient energy to kick-start your day.
#2: Many people prepare oily or fried foods like puris so they can feast after the fast, which is a bad idea. Make sure you don t include fried foods or carbohydrates in your diet, especially in your breakfast as you may suffer from a lot of gastrointestinal diseases. #3: Don t forget to include curd or buttermilk in your meal. A bowl of curd is not only easy-to-digest but also prevents acidity and aids in digestion. Also, it provides you with a whole lot of nutrients and probiotics that can help you deal with stomach complications caused due to fasting for a long time. #4: Keep your food light and avoid eating spicy and oily food. The trick to prevent gastric problems like indigestion and acidity is to keep your stomach half-full. This is to ensure that you don t overeat while you break your fast or feast.
#5: Eat the veggies first. Packed with fibre and nutrients, they can keep you full and prevent you in indulging in high-calorie meals. Starting your meal with a bowl of salad or stir fried vegetables can be a very good idea.
#6 Also, rather than gulping down a glass of cold drink, drink a glass of buttermilk with mint to aid digestion. Also, manage diabetes with these tips during Eid.
#7: You may feel very thirsty after eating food, but the best idea is to avoid drinking water while eating or immediately after your meals. It dilutes the digestive enzymes and prolongs the process of digestion, thereby leading to indigestion. Drink water around an hour before or after meals to ensure proper digestion.
