If you don t have time to exercise in the morning, an evening workout might be the only thing that could fit your busy schedule. However, before hitting the gym, you need to make sure that your energy level is at the peak and you are well-rested. These tips will help you stick and get the most out of your evening workout.
Time your meal
Eating a heavy evening meal and instantly rushing to the gym can lead to digestive issues and also zap your energy. So, make sure that you plan to workout, at least, two hours after your meal. Also, remember that you should never workout in an empty stomach, so have a handful of snacks half an hour before you exercise. According to nutritionist Priya Kathpal, one small banana, a slice of multigrain bread or a handful of almonds can just be perfect.
Hit the gym straight from work
If you think that you will go home first and then hit the gym, you may feel too lethargic to exercise. Instead of going home, arrange your gym clothes and carry your gym bag with you to work. This way you will be more likely to stick to your workout. If you must stop at home before you head the gym, don t waste time by chatting or sitting on the couch. Freshen up, change your clothes and just get moving.
Drink lots of water
When you are not adequately hydrated your energy levels are low and you are more prone to cramps which in turn can hinder your workout. So make sure that you drink enough water all day long and before and after your workout. Not only will you feel more energised but will also be able to perform the best. Find out if you should drink water in between your sets.
Mix it up
You may get extremely bored with just doing one type of exercise which could be a significant reason for you not being regular at the gym. So, incorporate different forms of cardio and weight training in your routine. This will not only ensure that you not only burn fat but also tone your muscles. Once a week you can also try other activities like Zumba, spinning, yoga and even participate in team sports.
Know your machines
Most gyms have common machines like the elliptical trainer, treadmill, an indoor cycle, bench press and leg press. They also have other variations of fitness equipment but to optimise your regime you should know how to use them correctly. For example, the treadmill is excellent for HIIT which allows you to vary from low speed to high speed, the elliptical is useful for people who have joint problems. But you can only reap the benefits once you know how to use them correctly. So never hesitate to seek help from your trainer.
