Most of you are often confused about what you should wear while performing yoga. Your yoga clothes should be comfortable and should permit you to stretch and make postural alignments easily. With a number of brands, styles, fabrics and designs available in the market, you have a multitude of options to choose from. Here are some suggestions that will help you pick the right clothes for yoga.

Tops

  • Select light-weight tops that can wick away your sweat and promote flexibility. Opt for materials such as cotton and linen and completely avoid synthetic, denim, corduroy leather and rubber.
  • Since yoga poses demands a lot of bending and twisting you should opt for longer tops that can keep you covered. Fitted tanks are the best options as they can keep you covered even if you flip upside down. Being completely covered will make you feel more confident while you are sticking your leg in the air.
  • Do not slip into a T-shirt or a loose tank top while doing yoga as it can fall over your head whenever you are trying to do a headstand.
  • Also avoid tops with loose necklines or collars as they can irritate you while you are doing the inversions.

Bottoms

  • Go for cropped, fitted or full-length leggings that won t restrict your movements while performing the poses.
  • Avoid wearing short and loose shorts as they tend to bulge up when you are doing the movements.
  • Stay away from light coloured bottoms as these tend to be see-through no matter how thick the fabric is. Instead, stick to a chocolate, blue or any other dark coloured leggings.
  • Don t wear bottoms that are too long to avoid tripping.

Layering

  • Put on layering yoga pieces such as the long-sleeved thermal hoodies or the lightweight zip-up jackets that are ideal to wear in cool weather. These can also be a good option when you are travelling to a yoga class in the morning. These layers can also help you to prevent chills while you are relaxing your body after the yoga session when your body is not producing much heat.
  • While you are doing the yoga-nidra or lying down relaxation, you can also wrap a light-weight shawl to keep you warm.

Inners

  • If you prefer wearing underwear under your bottom, then skip the ones that can make you sweat. If you sweat excessively, opt for some moisture wicking materials such as cotton and linen instead of some synthetic fabrics.
  • You can also splurge on some new fabrics for your underwear available in the market that can help conceal excessive perspiration.

Options for men

  • Since yoga involves a lot of stretching and bending, men should wear stretchable and light-weight clothes. Long sleeved T-shirts and denims are a definite no for men.
  • If you don t want to slip while doing the sun salutations you should opt for material that can absorb your sweat. A sweat-absorbent cotton shirt will work as long as you can lift your arms. Here are 6 tips to deal with excessive sweating.
  • To minimise your hassle, go to a shop that can specialises in yoga clothes. These shops can offer you a wide range of options suitable for yoga.
