Who doesn t like catching up with friends after a hectic week at work? Weekends is party time no matter what age you are. But what about your fitness plans? Won t they go on a toss if you party every weekend considering the amount of alcohol and fried food you ll indulge in? Check the calorie count of different types of alcohol you consume at a party and here are the calories your favourite starters contain.

Well, not every party needs to include these things. Think of it more as getting together with friends or family and having a great time chit-chatting or engaging in some fun activities. You can begin with throwing the first healthy party in the group and you ll see how your friends who have been turning down your offers because they want to lose weight all this while will rush in. Here are some tips to throwing an awesome healthy party:

Drinks: Skip alcohol. Organise a party in the afternoon and replace the regular drinks with healthy mocktails or juices. You can even use plain soda or mix it with some lime and salt. No sugar, please. Use fresh ingredients for your mocktails and not canned juices or fruits. When served in a visually appealing form, people will certainly not miss alcohol.

Food: It has always been the main cause of extra calories at a party. If it s winter, keep varieties of soups. For summers, you can opt for cold soups or just drinks and appetisers should suffice. Choose light, non-creamy soups as they are healthier. For snacks, there is a huge list of healthy party snack recipes that you can use. These low calorie and nutrient dense appetisers are delicious and filling. You may not even need a main course if you plan it well. If at all you plan main course, use fresh ingredients and give a healthy twist to traditional delicacies. Place a sorbet or fresh fruits with low-fat yogurt for desserts with a drizzle of fresh fruit puree or some honey. You can even try baked rosogullas or low-cal brownies. These will look exotic and your guests will now look forward to your next party. You can also follow these tips to avoid binge eating at parties. For instance, I hosted my first healthy party last week and here's the menu:

Drinks: Beetroot and carrot juice Green tea cooler with honey and lime Fantastic fruit smoothieApple and pineapple smoothie

Appetisers/starters: Ragi nachos with healthy cream sauceIron rich poha cutletsFlaxseed crackers with beetroot dip Popcorn (Here's how snacking on popcorn can help you lose weight)

Main course: Hara masala brown rice pulao with lauki raita (You can also try one of these brown rice recipes)

Dessert: Fruit sandesh Vegan carrot cake You can plan a different menu from our healthy recipes section too.

Activities: Switch your usual DJ dance with some zumba moves. Manage a screen where people can watch and follow the moves. Organise games that require getting up from your place so that you and your guests don t end up sitting in one place for long. You can try one of these 25 exciting ways for staying fit.

Let the dress code be gym wear or casual clothes and ask your friends to come with their sneakers. If possible, take your party outdoors and incorporate everyone s daily workout in your party so no one goes back home guilty. If you have the budget, begin the weekend with an aqua zumba get together and then push off to a salad bar for a healthy brunch. With these tips, you won t have to skip partying on weekends.
