In the quest to lose weight and look more toned you might want to workout twice a day. The two times a day workout is also gaining a lot of popularity on Instagram and among celebrities. And while one workout a day can just be enough, can it be safe to workout twice a day? Let us hear it from fitness expert Roshni Shah from V s Fitness Studio, Mumbai.
Split your workout into two sessions
Ideally, you should not be doing two full-length workouts in a day. Your body needs rest to do high-intensity workouts. As your heart rate and blood circulation increases during a workout, your body goes through a lot of stress and those muscles get tired. So you need to get a lot of rest to allow your body to recover post-workout.
You can however instead split your workout and perform half of your workout in the morning and the other half in the evening. You can exercise 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. You will have more focus and energy when you split your workout. What s more, you will also reap the benefits of burning more calories as your metabolism increases after every workout. When you are working out twice a day, you get that afterburn twice. Plus, if you have back to back meetings and a commitment in the evening, splitting your workout into two, will give you a morning energy boost and an evening refresher. Here are 5 tips to get the best evening workout ever.
Do not do the same workout twice a day
It is also important to note that you cannot do the same exercises twice a day. For example, weight training could put too much strain on your muscles and hinder your recovery. If you are splitting your workout, it is always best that one session is focused on strength training and the other is focused on cardio. However, if you are a beginner and you split your workout twice a day, you may feel more sluggish than usual. So it is always better to seek guidance from a professional trainer. You must do these 4 things after a workout.
Pro tip: Do not forget to pay attention to proper warm-ups, hydration, nutrition and sleep.
