I am very lean and want to gain some weight. Will eating junk and high calorie food help me achieve that? Please suggest.
Gaining weight is as big a challenge as weight loss. There are several myths associated with it. However, you don t need to overfeed yourself with food to gain weight. While people with a tendency to put on weight may end up gaining a few pounds every time they over eat or indulge, this habit doesn t help anyone gain weight.
We asked Dr Aastha Sharma, Dietitian at the Nayati Hospitals, Mathura if eating calorie rich food is of any help and here is her response:
Most people who want weight gain start eating fatty foods, but they don t know that fatty food is not good for health. Eating foods rich in Trans fats increase the amount of harmful LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream and reduces the amount of beneficial HDL cholesterol. Trans fats create inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. You can add some of these foods to your diet to gain weight. Though junk foods like vada pav, burgers, pizza are loaded with calories, they only increase body fat and not muscle mass. If you want to gain weight the right way, you need to increase muscle mass. Caloric surplus is definitely required which means you must eat more calories than you can burn. Also, since muscle is made of protein, a protein rich diet is a must. You can also try these yoga poses to gain weight.
Another assumption is that you do not need to exercise since you are trying to put on weight. This is another myth. You definitely need to engage in the right amount of physical activity and exercises that can help you gain weight. You need at least 30 minutes of exercise daily and keep yourself hydrated to flush out toxins from the body to stay healthy and disease free in the long run. Follow these exercises to gain muscle mass.
