Some people just love running outdoors and can go on for miles, some others are fans of the treadmill and even bring one home so that they can use it whenever they prefer. The fact that you are exercising, whether it is by running outdoors or using a treadmill at the gym is commendable. It surely is keeping you fit. However, for those who have weightloss goals to achieve, we asked Mr Prosenjit Biswas, fitness manager at Skulpt, Kolkata which was a better form of cardio and here s what he has to say:
Low intensity cardio for longer time causes water percentage loss through sweating. This is not the same as fat loss. But body weight naturally reduces with any form of running, whether it is indoor or outdoor. Running outdoors is definitely a better form of cardio workout than using a treadmill. Running outdoors vs treadmill what burns more cardio?
Other factors remaining the same, while running on a treadmill, one can adjust speed, or more correctly, keep it constant. However, while running outside, since the speed can fluctuate, the calorie burn will fluctuate. Find out more about how you can use the treadmill correctly.
In such a scenario, running indoor will burn more calories. The ideal indoor workout temperature should be around 22 degree Celsius. However, since one can t guarantee temperature outside, the body temperature varies. When the body struggles against higher temperature (outside) it will burn more calories. What is better for knees?
Outdoor running on grass or mud surface is better for prevention of injury. Any form of hard surface increases the impact on the knees. New age treadmills, come with flexi boards (shock absorbers) which reduce chances of knee injury. Here are tips to prevent knee injury during exercise. While on the other hand, running on a hard surface outdoor, increases the possibility of the same. Barring the weather especially monsoons that stop you from running outdoors, you should always opt for running or walking on actual ground than on a treadmill for better effects.
