Losing weight is not easy. It takes hard work, commitment and for many a complete lifestyle makeover. Weight loss happens when you truly love to lead a healthy lifestyle as Ria Salian found out. Here she talks about her struggle with weight and how she finally found what works and lost a whopping 31kg.
I was bullied because of my weight -- Ria
Ria would look in the mirror and hated what she saw. I was 86kg when I was in my 12th standard. I have been bullied all my childhood be it by family members or schoolmates or bitchy neighbours. I would get very embarrassed hunting for clothes of my size and ask the shopkeepers Mere size ke kapde hai yaha? Always wanting to wear all those sexy clothes, I would feel terrible. I would console myself saying, its okay Ria, may be next birthday you will be in a better shape. I used to cry every other day due to fat shaming from many people. Always smiling outside, deep down inside, she wasn t happy. The young girl was trapped in her skin desperately wanting to be someone else.
Her journey to weight loss
Heavy almost all her life, she never really had a fitness routine. At a crossroads in her life, it clicked Ria that she had to get healthy for herself. She said after my 12th boards I just said to myself this has to end, and I will have to give an answer to others and most importantly -- Myself! Yoga looked like a lot of fun, and she thought it was something that she could do. She mastered a few yoga poses and within four months she lost 5 kg, and that was just the beginning of her transformation.
Exercise regimen
You must have heard that Kareena Kapoor attained her zero figure with surya namaskar or sun salutation. Even Bipasha Basu swears by yoga and does 108 rounds of surya namaskar every day. Ria seemed to have followed their footsteps. She religiously performed the sun salutation series for one hour daily. One hour would bring it down to some 100 rounds. It gives an excellent cardio workout while torching many calories. Ria never skipped walking and did brisk walking for 2 hours every day. So a total of 3 hours is what she put in to get in shape.
Ria's diet
Ria did not follow any crash diet to lose that weight. She totally banned junk foods from her diet and only stuck to home cooked foods only. She also cut down on her consumption of sweets and made sure that she drank a lot of water at regular intervals. Here is an expert-recommended Indian diet plan for weight loss.
Ria is a healthy, confident girl now
Ria went from 86 kg to 55 kg in two years and is now 31 kg lighter. To maintain her weight Ria religiously practices yoga and puts more thought to her diet. So what s Ria s advice if you are struggling to lose weight? She says, Find what works for you and do what you are passionate about.
