Most people avoid headstand because they think they can t perform them. But just because you are not a pro at doing the advanced yoga poses, does not mean you won t try them. Headstand has more benefits than you know. So whether you perform it against a wall or manage to perform without any support yoga expert Poonam Agarwal tells you why you should practice headstand every day.

Makes your upper body strong: Headstand is excellent to build your upper body strength. You need to work your shoulder, arms and upper back to balance yourself upside down. If you are a beginner, you may start shaking a few seconds after holding a headstand. Supporting your body against a wall can be a good way to keep the headstand for a longer time.

Improves your balance: Besides making you strong, headstand also helps improve your balance. It requires you to make constant adjustments to prevent you from falling which aids in improving your balance. Here's how you can do a headstand like a boss.

Boosts your mood: Headstand improves the blood flow to your brain, having a very calming effect and making you feel less stressed out. The pose also boosts your mood by reducing the production of the stress hormone cortisol and relieving anxiety.

Builds your core strength: Headstand can give you the abs you want. The upside down position will consistently work your abs as well as your obliques, lower back, hip flexors and inner thighs. Also, practice this 10 yoga pose routine for a flat tummy.

Improves bone health: A weight bearing exercise, headstand can help strengthen your bones and prevent osteoporosis. So performing a headstand when you are young can be a good way to prevent osteoporosis when you grow old.
