My work involves writing about diet, nutrition, how the body needs a detox every few days if you eat out a lot, why juicing vegetables and fresh fruits is a great idea and much more. If you are a foodie like me, you know how difficult it is to control the urge of eating out. So I decided to force myself to follow a healthy lifestyle with the daily fitness plans we have just started to share with our readers.

Since I love everything food, even healthy food and drinks attract me and I am not a picky eater so I don t mind trying anything and everything (vegetarian at least). I read about cold pressed juices while researching for an article and found the concept interesting. Basically, these juices are extracted by cold pressing as the name suggests, preventing exposure of the ingredients to heat and air. This retains the live enzymes and the goodness of the fruits and vegetables used. It s not pulp, it s actually thick juice, more like a first extract and the best part is no sugar, no preservatives and nothing else but the ingredients mentioned.

The experience

Sounds interesting? So I placed my order with Raw Pressery for 1 day cleanse which includes 6 bottles and received my order early in the morning. They usually deliver it between 6.30am to 8am which is nice as you can start the detox early morning with the first juice that needs to be consumed at 9 am. Now the cleanse demands you drink only the juices for the entire day if you want a perfect cleanse. In case you are very hungry, you can have raw veggies but avoid cooked food.

I was happy to see the bottles and determined to cleanse my system. The juices come in 8 different types of which I got the Trim, Love, Flush, Shield, Glow and Lean. Just reading the list of highly nutritious ingredients like kale, spinach, carrots, beetroot, apples, bottle gourd, pomegranate, watermelon, chia seeds and so many more, gave me the confidence that this cleanse is surely going to be effective.

The review

Most juices have lemon and ginger as the common ingredient which is great because I love them both. I sipped on the Trim first and it was nice. I wouldn t imagine that a juice with spinach, bottle gourd, kale, green apple, amla, celery, ginger and lemon could taste good. I was happy as a little bird and excited to try the next one. But I had to wait for a few hours.

Honestly, I did not know that juices can keep you full for a long time but surprisingly it did. I wasn t hungry for quite a few hours till my alarm beeped and it was time for the next one. After this it just got better. Each juice tasted better than the other and so it was a tough choice. I did have to pee a lot because of the high liquid intake. My stomach felt so much better and relaxed. I did feel hungry around 3 in the afternoon and so I just had some cucumber slices and carrots with a squeeze of lime and just a tiny pinch of salt.

Here s my take on each of the juices:

  1. Glow which had cucumber, coconut water, pineapple, lemon grass, aloe vera and lemon. Aren t these ingredients a perfect recipe for skincare? Even Shahnaz Hussain recommends cold pressed juices for beauty and glow.
  2. Flush which had apple, beetroots, carrot, ginger and lemon. This one was thick and had a beautiful colour and it doesn t taste sweet despite the sweet ingredients.
  3. Shield which has tangerine, carrot and ginger. This is one drink I can order as mocktail at any restaurant. Believe me, it is that good.
  4. Love which has watermelon, pomegranate, chia seeds and mint. Fresh and nice but the pomegranate was a little overpowering.
  5. Trim which has bottle gourd, spinach, kale, green apple, amla, celery, ginger and lemon. This might be a difficult drink for someone who smirks at the thought of these ingredients but I didn t mind it. The taste of celery, spinach and kale was prominent and I could smell the bottle gourd too.
  6. Lean which has spirulina, kiwi, kale, cucumber, green apple and mint. This is the thickest of all the juices and may not taste so good in the first sip. But you ll like it if you love all things healthy. I don t mind drinking it once a month because it surely is benefitting my body in so many ways.

My day ended with the last drink and I called it a night by 10.30 pm on a happy note. My body was thanking me for giving it a day off from junk food and drinks on a Saturday. I did not feel drained out the entire day and slept well too.

You are bound to feel hungry when you get up the next morning but don t stuff yourself with a ghee laden aloo parantha for breakfast. You can have a light yet filling breakfast like oats or dalia that does not have any fat or spices. Let your body transition slowly in the routine after the cleanse.

About the Raw Pressery cold pressed juices

The bottles look appealing in the first go. They are made of food grade plastic and the instructions and ingredients are written on it very clearly. I love the bottle design. It also mentions the time you have to drink the juice. The shelf life of these bottles is 72 hours when refrigerated without opening. If opened, the juice needs to be consumed with 48 hours and stored in the refrigerator.

The final say

It is a good way to cleanse your body if you are lazy to make all the juices and stuff at home. They cost Rs.250 for a bottle which means 1500 for a 1 day cleanse. I d say it is not bad if you want to opt for a cleanse once a month and 2-3 times after the holiday season. When you can spend Rs2000-3000 on a meal at a fancy restaurant, why not for a cleanse?

Would I go for it again? Definitely. I might try the 2-day or 3-day cleanse options that Raw Pressery offers.
