I am on a mission this year for Ramadan. And the mission is to spend the least possible time in the kitchen. The main focus of Ramadan is not food, even though it appears so. It is for the people who fast to reflect on their faith, worship and do charity. Over the years, I feel my focus had shifted from the main purpose of this holy month and I would spend hours and hours drafting menus, making recipes and crowding the dining table for Iftaar. So this year, I am gathering recipes and meal ideas that are quick, time saving and healthy. Just because it is Ramadan, it is not a free ticket to pile up on the calories and look like an elephant by Eid. So this year, the plan is to spend as less time as possible in the kitchen, yet make delicious and healthy dishes to keep my family happy. I like to have something refreshing and healthy for sehri as it sets the mood for the day. Of course, it has to be filling too, and this is why I think this mint-mango smoothie is an ideal recipe. Preparation time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • Mango, peeled and cubed – 2 cups
  • Mint leaves – 1 cup
  • Geek yogurt – 1/2 cup
  • Ice cubes – 1/2 cup
  • Honey – 2 tbsp.
  • Almond milk – 1 cup.

Method

  • Put everything in a blender and blitz it till it becomes a smoothie. garnish with mint leaves.

Tips

  • You can add baby spinach to make it more nutritious.
  • A lot of people add ice cream to smoothies/ milkshakes, but think about the calories you are adding to your smoothie. The idea is to keep it healthy and consume calories that count.
  • You can add more fruits to make it more nutritious. You can use fruits like papaya, banana, apple or berries. You can use frozen berries too.
