Ramadan recipe for kids: Healthy tokri chaat

Kids the are the most excited when it comes to fasting. Whether your child is properly fasting from sunrise to sunset, or is practicing by observing a fast for a few hours, they deserve a special treat for iftaar. We all have fond childhood memories of iftaar and the delicious spread our parents would put out. However, planning a menu for every day of the month long Ramadan can be a tough job, so to make it easy and help you out, here is an iftaar recipe that will definitely please your taste buds. This interesting tokri chaat will get your child’s attention for sure and you can make sure that your child also eats something healthy to break her fast.   • Medium sized potatoes – 2
  • Egg – 1
  • Cornflour – 1 tbsp
  • Boiled black chickpeas – 1 cup
  • Chopped cucumber and carrots – 1 cup
  • Boiled corn – 1/2 cup
  • Yogurt – 2 tbsp.
  • Seaoning: salt, black pepper, chaat masala
  • Coriander and mint leaves – a handful

Method

  • Preheat the oven at 280 degrees celcius.
  • Peel and grate the potatoes. Squeeze out the excess water.
  • Mix in the egg, cornflour and a little salt. Mix to make it a sticky gruel.
  • On the back of a cupcake mould, which should be greased, stick the potato gruel, so it forms a bowl-like mould.
  • Bake it for 20 minutes, or till golden brown.
  • Once done, take it out and let it cool before you unmould it. If you try unmoulding it while it is still hot, you might break it.
  • Meanwhile, mix the other ingredients to make the chaat filling. You can use any ingredients of your choice and adjust the seasoning as per your taste. You can also involve your children to mix the chaat together.
  • Spoon the chaat filling inside the potato tokri. Garnish with coriander and mint leaves.
