After eating plain North Indian food for weeks, I was craving a good salad. My local vendor was unable to source mixed salad leaves so that I could make one at home and I was not going to compromise with only iceberg lettuce. Fortunately, I happened to go shopping at one of the gourmet stores and saw this box of Trikaya ready-to-eat salad box. I grabbed it without thinking twice. By the way, did you know, there are some salads you must avoid eating if you want to lose weight?

Couldn t wait to open the box and gobble it up, and here s my review of it

The packing is very impressive. It s a hard case box and so you can easily carry it in your bag to office or while on the go without worrying about spilling. It even comes with a fork. So for people who want to enjoy a salad for snacks or lunch, you can carry it anywhere. You can also try this tasty leafy salad recipe.

What does the Trikaya ready-to-eat salad box contain

Iceberg lettuce, Lollo Rossa lettuce, Green Romaine lettuce, red oak lettuce, Simpson lettuce, Cherry tomatoes, red cabbage, baby spinach leaves, and salad dressing which is a mix of vegetable oil, iodised salt, rock salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, and water.

The taste

Since I had this salad at home, I added one cucumber to the mix as I wanted some crunch in my salad. You can even add some watermelon and feta or croutons to increase the quantity of the salad and improvise on the taste. Just add the dressing and mix slightly. The leaves are crunchy and fresh. They are washed and hence you can just gobble them up. The dressing has a good balance of acidity and adds a punch to the salad. I quite liked the taste. If you want no oil in your salad, you can carry a piece of lime with you and squeeze it on the salad. I am sure it will taste as good. You can also try the lettuce and strawberry salad recipe at home.

There are two drawbacks, though. One, it had only one cherry tomato in it and 5-6 strands of red cabbage which was disappointing. The other is that the salad dressing contains vegetable oil. I wish they replaced it with olive oil instead.

A salad box costs you Rs.65 and is available with online grocers too. The portion is good for a single meal. So compared to the expensive salads at restaurants, this is definitely an economical and healthy bet. I am definitely buying it again. Here are healthy salad recipes for weight loss.
