Bhramari pranayama, or the humming bee, is one of the best deep breathing techniques to relieve anxiety and depression. It is a simple breathing technique that can be performed anywhere at home or work to calm you down instantly. It also helps relieve headache and reduce blood pressure. Plus, the asana improves concentration and memory.

Steps to do the asana:

  • Sit up straight in sukhasana or the easy pose and keep your eyes closed.
  • Now place the index fingers of each hand on each ear. Make sure you place it on the cartilage between your ear and cheek.
  • Now take a deep breath in and begin to hum softly. Extend for as long as you can.
  • Breathe in again and continue the same for 6-7 times and then relax.
  • You can practise this 3-4 times in a day on an empty stomach.

Tips:

  • Make sure that you finger in on the cartilage and not inside your ear.
  • Do not press the cartilage too hard.
  • Keep your mouth closed while you make the humming sound.
  • Also, make sure that you learn the technique correctly from a yoga teacher.
