Your fast paced ambitious lifestyle combined with erratic food and sleep habits can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. Yoga can help energise you, improve your stamina and boost your immune system. This classic pose recommended by fitness expert Shameem Akthar is powerfully therapeutic to beat fatigue. And the best part is you can perform in anywhere even in your workplace.

Standing pawanmuktasana is a very energising yoga pose and can also provide an excellent stretch to your legs. It will open up the lower body usually contracted with tension or when you maintain a posture (like sitting) for a long time. It will also open up any blocked energy channel and provide a quick pick-me-up. It is also an excellent pose to relieve gas and acidity.

Standing pawanmuktasana

To perform this asana,

  • Stand straight keeping your feet together.
  • As you inhale, bend your right leg at your knee and as you exhale lift your right knee as high as you can.
  • Inhale again and as you exhale clasp your knee with your hands. Depending on your flexibility reach your knees to your belly or your chest.
  • Hold this position for as long as you can and take deep breaths. The focus on the breath will boost your mood.
  • To release, slowly bring your leg down and repeat five times. Repeat on the other side.

Word of caution

Avoid this asana if you have high blood pressure, hyperacidity, heart disease, suffer from hernia, have a slipped disc, any disorder related to the testis, or have a neck and back problem. Also, avoid this pose if you are menstruating and after the second trimester of pregnancy.
