If you are trying to beat constipation, kurmasana or the tortoise pose is an excellent asana to do so. The asana gives a very good stretch to the spine and helps relieve pain from the neck and back. It also contributes to relieve symptoms of a headache. What s more, perform this asana if you want to get rid of the belly bulge, says yoga expert Pragya Bhatt.

Steps to do the pose:

  • Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you and your palms alongside your hips on the floor.
  • Slowly, press your thigh on the floor, flex your feet and lift your chest.
  • Then spread your knees as wide as possible and bring your feet to the edges of the mat.
  • Then bend your knees and bring your feet closer to your hips while keeping your feet flexed.
  • Then extend your arms and chest forward and place your hands in between your legs.
  • Then stretch your arms out to the sides such that your shoulders are under your knees.
  • Then pull your inner heels down to stretch and straighten your legs. Make sure that your inner thighs are in contact with the sides of your ribs.
  • Take a deep breath in and continue to stretch your arms out to the sides. Stay in the pose for a few breaths and slowly come back to the starting position. Also, try trikonasana to relieve constipation.

Tips:

  • If you are a beginner, stay within your limits and do not overstrain your muscles.
  • You can also place a blanket or a high pillow under your leg if you find it tough to get your soles touch the floor.
