If you are looking to lose weight from your back and hips, then this yoga posture is for you. Urdhva dhanurasana, also known as upward bow pose stretches and tones the hip flexors and the core muscles. It also stretches the muscles of your glutes, thighs and hamstrings, helping you give them a defined shape. This asana opens up your lungs and is very therapeutic for asthma. It also stimulates the thyroid and pituitary glands, helping you counteract depression. Here are some more yoga poses to eliminate fat from the back.

Steps to do the asana:

  • Lie on the floor with your back on it. Now bend your knees and keep your feet hip width apart, placing them close to the knees.
  • Now press your shoulders down on the floor and also push your inner feet down.
  • Breathing in, lift your hips to the ceiling and hold this position for two consecutive breaths.
  • As you breathe out, pull your feet in towards yourself and ground your shoulders on the floor.
  • Now lift your body up on the crown of your head, towards the ceiling. While you do this, keep your arms straight. Hold this pose for as long as you can and keep breathing slowly.
  • To come out of the position, breathe out and gently lower yourself down to the floor.

Tips:

  • Do not rush into the pose as it may lead to injuries.
  • It is an advanced yoga posture, and only consistent practice can help you do this posture with ease.

  • Also, do not perform this asana if you have high blood pressure or, at times, when you have a headache.
