Striking a punching bag uses a lot of muscles, elevates your heart rate and burns a lot of calories. In addition to giving you an impactful cardio workout, it can help build strength and definition in your chest and arms. Depending on your weight, a punching a bag can help you burn up to 400 calories in just 30 minutes says Ganesh Sapkal, fitness expert Gold's Gym India. At the same time, the resistance you encounter from the bag can help tone the muscles of your entire body and improve the overall lean muscle mass. If you cannot resort to other milder forms of workout and dieting you should definitely get a punching bag at home. Also, try kickboxing to get toned.

Before you start training with a punching bag, you need to know how to use it properly. Always hit the bag with your wrists so that the back of your hand is in a straight line with the top of your wrist. Do not bend your wrists while punching as it can damage your tendons. To continuously and rhythmically hit the bag you must balance your weight on the front of your feet. Breathe properly as you hit the bag to ensure that you get a great cardio workout. Also, ensure that you wear a hand wrap or a glove before you use a punching bag. You can increase the intensity of your workout by incorporating additional movement like footwork. If you find yourself sore after an intense workout, get a foam roller at home to massage your body.
