The double angle pose or Dvikonasana has an influence on your Anahata or the heart chakra and is an excellent pose for young people too. The asana loosens up chest muscles and nerves and hence is an effective chest opening pose. It also improves circulation in the neck and spine region. Yoga expert Mahua Deb, trainer, Defence Welfare Association and at Vishakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) shows the correct technique to practice Dvikonasana and its benefits:

Steps:

  1. Stand straight with feet a foot apart and arms behind the back with fingers interlocked.
  2. Exhale and bend from the hip so that the face and torso is parallel to the ground
  3. Raise the arms behind the back, as high as possible, while inhaling.
  4. Then bend further while exhaling and try to reach the forehead close to the knees, while lowering the arms in front.
  5. Hold the pose for 30 seconds and release inhaling and taking the arms back and raising the torso, back to standing straight with arms behind.
  6. Take care of your breathing to perform this pose correctly. You inhale while in standing position, exhale when you bend forward, and inhale again when raising your arms. Exhale while lowering your arms and inhale again when reverting to standing position.
  7. Practice 10 rounds of this pose. Here s why you should practice yoga for 20 minutes daily.

Benefits:

  • Strengthens the muscles of the shoulder blades and upper spine.
  • Relieves neck and back pain and removes stiffness in neck and back.
  • Opens chest and tones muscles in the spine region.
  • Helps in breast enhancement.
