Find yourself extremely sore after an intense gym session? Wish that somebody would be able to give you a massage? If your answer is yes, then you should consider buying a foam roller.

Foam rollers are cylindrical shaped tools that you can use to help loosen knots on the various parts of your body. Some of the exercises that you do with a foam roller maybe a little painful, but it'll aid your recovery after a workout.

Certain parts of the body are really tough to stretch on your own - like your butt and this is where the foam roller comes to good use.

Here is a video where Sarah Dussault tells you how you can use a foam roller. She demonstrates a few exercises that you can follow.

Just like most fitness equipment, foam roller can cause more harm than good if you do it in the wrong way.

1. Never try to loosen your lower back with a foam roller.

2. Make sure that you don't spend too much time self-massaging. Ideally, spend just about 20 seconds on the areas that pain.

3. Don't roll directly over the area you feel pain. Try to massage the areas inches around that painful area. Also, make sure that you do not roll too fast.

Besides easing out sore muscles, foam roller can also help improve your back posture.
