Lunges are a great exercise for your lower body, especially your quadriceps. They can be performed without weights or with dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells. Here's how you can do them with dumbbells:
Step 1: Stand straight while holding two dumbbells in each arm with your palms facing inwards. This is the starting position.
Step 2: Step forward with your right leg while keeping your left leg stationary and lower your body while keeping your upper body straight and maintaining balance. Make sure your right shin is perpendicular to the ground.
Step 3: Hold this position for a second and then return to the starting position. Repeat for desired number of reps and then switch legs and repeat the exercise.
Tips: If you have balance issues, first do this exercise without any weights. Avoid the barbell version if you have back issues. If you've mastered the standing lunges, you can always do the walking version which is slightly tougher.
