You ve obviously done this several times before or at least know of someone who has. There is a big night out plan, a party or wedding to attend in the evening and you starve yourself all day or eat as less as possible to hog on the delicious food or drinks in the evening. You fall in this list if you are trying to lose weight. How healthy or beneficial is this trick? Or is it just calorie compensation that you are trying? We asked Mita Shukla, Chief Nutritionist, Fortis Hospital, Anandapur, Kolkata to shed some light on this practice of saving up calories to binge later and here s what she has to say:
Occasionally it is ok. But for regular practice it is not advisable. You should always maintain a balanced diet which will be divided in frequent intervals. Also, eating heavy meal at night just because you didn t get a chance to eat much during the day is a strict no. It gives rise to several health issues and doesn t favour weightloss either. Stick to basic light meals at night whether or not you have eaten heavy meals during the day or survived on just lettuce. Here s why you must avoid heavy meals at night.
Starvation is not advisable for weight reduction from nutrition point of view. Yes, occasionally starvation is good for detoxification of the body system. During starvation the stored glycogen will breakdown to provide the calories but it certainly does not aid weightloss. Here are 9 things that happen to your body when you lose weight.
Starving during the day lowers your metabolism, deprives you of sleep and burns muscle tissue. Also, if you are empty stomach the entire day, food you eat at night gets converted directly into fats leading to weight gain. If you have a wedding or party to attend in the evening and you know there ll be drinks and calorie rich food, the best way to resist overeating or high calorie intake is to eat something before you go. Follow these 10 diet habits that guarantee weightloss.
