I am a 20-year-old and I have fruits with my dinner. My friends tell me that I am not doing the right thing. Is it okay to eat fruits with meals or after meals? If not, what is the right time to have fruits?
Most of us enjoy fruits after dinner and love the bowl of strawberries for breakfast. However, it may not be a good idea to eat fruits whenever you want to and the way you want to. Well-known dietician Neha Chandna tells you why you should not have fruits with your meals.
When you consume fruits with other foods, the digestion process is delayed causing the food to ferment in the gut. Also do not mix fruits with salt or yoghurt if you suffer from digestive disorders like acidity, heartburn, and indigestion. Rather mix your fruits with salads if you like. Fresh fruits also taste great in smoothies. However, there is no harm in adding fruits to your cereals.
Also, avoid having fruits right after your meal as it may not get digested properly and may also interfere with the absorption of nutrients. Ideally, you should eat fruits an hour before your meal and leave a gap of 30 minutes after your meal for your fruit snack.
If you want to reap in the maximum nutritional benefits of fruits, consume them on an empty stomach. So having fruits first thing in the morning after drinking a glass of water can be a great idea.
Most fruits have a shelf life of two days. Here s how you can store them the right way.
