Nothing like lunges to tone your thighs and hips, right? Lunges is a great legs and hip exercise, provided you do it properly. It is always a good idea to follow step-by-step instructions for doing lunges. Once you know how to do lunges correctly, you can graduate to doing side lunges. This exercise will help you get killer butts! Dhruv Chaudhury, Assistant Vice President, Multi-fit gym, explains how to do side lunges the correct way.
At the start, do not use any weights while performing this exercise. You can gradually start using weights once you get the form and position right. Always consult a certified gym trainer before trying or starting any new form of exercise.
1. Start with a standing position. With your feet and knees together, stand straight.
2. Taking a wide step sideways, spread your legs apart, as far as you can go comfortably.
3. Now bending to your right, lunge towards the floor.

4. Make sure your right leg remains straight and stable.
5. As you lunge, take care that your right knee does not extend past your right toes.
6. Stay there for three breaths and then come back to the original position.
7. Repeat on the other side. This completes one set of a side lunge.
In the beginning, start with a set of 10 side lunges, gradually increasing to 30-50 sets. Remember to keep your breath even and do not hurry with it.
