I have hit a plateau of sorts with the amount of weights (for e.g. 45 pound dumbbells while doing chest press) I can lift. I am scared I will get injured if I push more as lifting 45 pound is itself a challenge. How do I increase my ability or is it fine?

If you are scared or not able to do it alone, then ask someone to stand over you for safety and then do it. That will increase your power.
