Store bought toothpaste might give you the feeling of freshness and squeaky clean teeth but how long does the feeling last? Although they taste good not many people know that these have added artificial sweeteners like sorbitol, sodium saccharin Surfactants. They also contain surfactants like sodium lauryl sulphate which could be harmful to you. You can easily make an easy to use toothpaste at home with natural and easily available ingredients.
Ingredients you'll need:
2/3 cup baking soda
1 tsp fine sea salt
Essential oil: 1 2 tsp extract or 10-15 drops essential oil (Opt for peppermint oil for that fresh minty feel)
About 1/2 cup coconut oil (to maintain the texture)
2 spoons of stevia powder (This is to be used to sweeten it only if you can't bear the bitter taste. Since it is a plant based sweetener, you need not worry)
Take a double boiler or just microwave coconut oil and melt or slightly soften it(Prefer semi-hard coconut oil)
When it cools down add baking soda, stevia powder and essential oil.
Finally, when it is completely cool add sea salt and stir well till it turns into a thick paste that can stay on the toothbrush.
Storage:
Since it cannot be put in a tube put it in an airtight container and keep it away from water, don't dip your brush into the jar, use spoon. If required make different jars for different family members.
How did you like the toothpaste recipe? You can even gift it to your loved ones. It is easy to make . Although all the ingredients will last for a long time like a month or so, still you might want to make in a small amount(for 10 days or so), so that it remains fresh.
