Healthy snack recipe: Flaxseed crackers with beetroot dip

There is enough being said about the health benefits of flaxseeds and why not just patients with heart disease or high cholesterol but even healthy individuals need to use them daily. Here s how you can lower cholesterol with flaxseeds. However, it s obvious that you run out of ideas to use flaxseeds in your daily diet. You can use them in raitas, salads, add them to your breakfast cereal or try these 11 ways to use them. There are several healthy recipes that you can make using flaxseeds as the core ingredient too. So here is one such recipe from Chef Tarla Dalal s kitchen for the flaxseed crackers and beetroot dip that is a perfect appetiser, evening snack and healthy party snack too. Ingredients:

  • cup flaxseeds/alsi, powdered coarsely
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried mixed herbs
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • cup boiled beetroot, finely chopped
  • cup onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic, finely chopped
  • cup mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 cup fresh low-fat curd, homemade preferably
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. The dip tastes best when chilled. Hence, you can prepare it before baking the crackers.
  2. For the dip, combine the beetroot, onions, garlic, chilli, mint leaves, curd and salt in a bowl. Give it a nice stir and keep in the refrigerator.
  3. For the crackers, combine flax seed powder, wheat flour, oil, chilli flakes, herbs and salt to taste in a bowl. Knead this to a stiff dough.
  4. Cover and set aside for 15 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough in equal portions and roll it out. Cut the crackers into decide shape or squares.
  6. Prick the crackers with a fork and lay them on a baking tray.
  7. Bake the crackers in a preheated oven at 200 C for 15-20 minutes.
  8. The crackers must be light brown on both sides and crisp. Keep aside to cool.
  9. Serve with the chilled beetroot dip.
