Healthy Recipe: Protein rich moong dal

Moong dal is a rich source of vegetarian proteins. It also controls blood sugar level and is good for the diabetic patient. It also controls cholesterol. Green Moong dal is loaded with nutrients like minerals, vitmains and health benefits. Here is why green gram or moong dal is good for health. Green moong dal has high protein and is a low-calorie food that is packed with vitamins and minerals, which not only makes it a healthy meal but also a comfort food.

Ingredients

  • Split green gram skinless (cooked) (dhuli moong dal) - 30g
  • Ginger- grated
  • Green chillies- 1
  • Asafoetida- A pinch
  • Cumin seeds- tsp
  • Red chilli powder- tsp
  • Turmeric powder - tsp
  • Coriander powder- tsp
  • Garam masala- tsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped- tbsp
  • Lemon juice- 1 tsp
  • Salt- As per taste
  • Oil- tsp

Method:

  1. Clean and wash the green gram split with water twice. Add the dal in cooker.
  2. Scrape the ginger and roughly chop half of it and julienne the rest.
  3. Now, add four slit green chillies and chopped ginger to the dal. Add 3 cups of water and cook the dal till just done (around 2 - 3 whistles is just enough). Make sure that the dal should not get mashed.
  4. Heat oil then add asafoetida, cumin seeds and saute till they crackle. Immediately add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and saute for a minute.
  5. Add the cooked dal, salt and gently mix. Cook on low heat, taking care that the dal does not get mashed.
  6. Finish the khilma with garam masala, lemon juice and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
