Healthy weight loss recipe: Nachni dhokla

The natural fat content in nachni is lower than all other cereals so this dhokla can be a great option if you are trying to lose weight.

Give a healthy twist to your regular dhoklas by preparing them with ragi or nachni. Being a good source of dietary fibre nachni can keep you fuller for long and prevent hunger pangs, helping you keep your weight in control. Plus, the natural fat content in ragi is lower than all other cereals so it can be a great option if you are trying to lose weight. Nachni is rich in both iron and calcium that can keep your bones strong and prevent anaemia.


  • Nachni flour 1 cup
  • Fresh curd 1 cup
  • Ginger-green chili paste 1 tsp
  • Fruit Salt 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

  • Roast the flour on low heat for five minutes.
  • Cool, add curd and mix to get a thick batter.
  • Keep aside for 2 hours.
  • Add fruit salt and salt.
  • Mix well.
  • Grease a plate with little oil and pour the batter into it
  • Steam on medium heat for 10 to 15 mins.
  • Cool and cut into pieces.
  • Serve with green chutney.

Tempering (optional):

  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - tsp
  • Jeera tsp
  • Til 1 tsp
  • Green chilies (slit) - 3
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves


  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds. Let it sputter.
  • Add jeera, til, curry leaves and slit chilies.
  • Add dhokla pieces.
  • Mix well and saut for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot.
