The brown rice methi pulao is rich, delicious, healthy as well as filling. Choosing brown rice over white rice is a healthier option as brown rice has antioxidants, dietary fibre and other essential nutrients that boost the immune system. The addition of yogurt not only adds flavour but also makes this pulao a healthy low-fat dish.


  • Brown Basmati Rice - 2 cups
  • Fenugreek Leaves (Methi) - 1 bunch (You can also use dried kasoorimethi instead)
  • Green Chillies - 3 (finely chopped)
  • low fat Yogurt - 2 tblsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin/ Fennel Powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tblsp
  • Salt - as needed
  • Water - 3.5 cups

  • Soak the rice for 45 minutes, drain it and keep it aside.
  • Separate the fenugreek leaves and wash it nicely.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter the cumin seeds.
  • Add the green chillies, turmeric powder, coriander powder and cumin powder. Saute for a minute.
  • Add the fenugreek leaves (methi) and saute for a minute.
  • Add the rice and fry it along with everything for one minute.
  • Add the yogurt, an exact amount of water and required salt. Mix everything together.
  • Cook till the rice is completely done. You can cook it in a rice cooker, pressure cooker or stove top.
