Healthy recipe: Khakhra pizza

The name pizza makes most people drool but it also spells unhealthy and high-calorie food. So how do you enjoy a pizza while sticking to your fitness goals? Try a healthy version of it. The best part about pizzas is that you can take the liberty of choosing toppings. Switch unhealthy toppings with fresh and low-calorie ideas. Use cheese sparingly or substitute it with some cottage cheese or paneer and you won t have to compromise on your weight loss plans.

Here s a quick recipe whole wheat methi khakhra or bajra khakhras.

Ingredients

  • 2 khakhras
  • cup onions, finely chopped
  • cup capsicum, finely chopped
  • cup shredded cabbage
  • 2 tsp butter

For tomato salsa

  • cup tomatoes, deseeded and finely chopped
  • cup spring onions, finely chopped
  • tsp garlic, finely chopped
  • tsp green chilli paste
  • tsp cumin seeds or jeera powder
  • tsp sugar
  • tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cheese and spring onions for garnish

Method

  1. For the salsa, mix all the ingredients for the salsa in a bowl and mash it slightly. The salsa is ready and can be used with multigrain crackers too.
  2. For this recipe, heat the butter in a pan and add the onions, capsicum and cabbage to it. Saute it till the ingredients turn translucent.
  3. Add the tomato salsa and stir. Cook for 2-3 minutes till all the ingredients blend well.
  4. Allow the topping to cool.
  5. Just before serving, place the khakhra on the plate. Spread some topping over it and sprinkle some cheese and spring onions. Serve immediately to avoid khakhra getting soggy.
  6. You can enjoy this pizza for a light dinner too.
