Healthy Recipe: Homemade wholewheat noodles

Love noodles but don't want to eat the unhealthy processed kind? Here's how you can make your own wholewheat noodles at home.

Love noodles? Who doesn't? Instant noodles have everybody hooked, from toddlers to grandparents. However, we all know that packaged noodles have no nutritional value whatsoever. Also, since it is made of maida, it is definitely not a very healthy dish. What if you could make your own noodles -- healthy and wholewheat, and use it just like packaged noodles? Here's a recipe that will tell you how to do it:


Wholewheat flour -- 1 cup

Egg -- 1 whole

Oil -- 1 tablespoon

Salt -- a pinch

Lukewarm Water -- as needed

Extra flour for rolling and dusting.


  • Mix all the dry ingredients well.
  • Crack the egg in a bowl and whisk lightly.
  • Add the dry ingredients in the egg.
  • Add the oil and mix the whole mixture.
  • Now add a little water and knead to form a smooth dough.
  • Go on adding water little by little as needed.
  • Knead well to form a soft and firm dough.
  • When done, polish the dough with some oil.
  • Now, on your work surface, sprinkle a generous amount of dough.
  • Roll out the dough and with a rolling pin, spread it into a thin sheet.
  • Take a pizza cutter and cut thin strips of the dough.
  • Keep the thickness of the strips as you like. You can either cut it into ramen noodles or flat noodles.
  • You can use these noodles right away or store it.
  • For storing, fold the noodles the way you like and let air-dry for at least a day.
  • Now store it in airtight containers and use like you would any packet noodle.

Use these noodles in any recipe that calls for noodles. You can make hakka noodles, noodles soup or with a spicy sauce.
