Healthy recipe for diabetics: Oats upma

A bowl of freshly cooked oats upma can be one of the healthiest options for breakfast. Oats is rich in dietary fibre while the vegetables are rich sources of vitamins and minerals. Ingredients: Also Read - World Diabetes Day: Steps to improve metabolism for the prevention of diabetes



  • Oats – 1 cup
  • Mixed vegetables like carrot, green beans and peas – 2 cups
  • Onion – 1 medium
  • Curry leaves and coriander leaves
  • Ginger – 1 small piece
  • Green Chillies – 3
  • Channa Dal – 1 tsp
  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Extra virgin olive oil – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method: Also Read - World Diabetes Day: Enjoy Diwali by keeping these tips in mind

  • Heat one tsp of olive oil in a kadai.
  • Add mustard, jeera and channa dal. Once it splutters, add chopped onion and saute till golden brown.
  • Add chopped chillies and ginger and saute for 3 minutes.
  • Add all the vegetables and sauté briefly. Add water to the vegetables and bring to a boil.
  • Add salt and oats and mix thoroughly.
  • Cover with a lid and cook till the oats are cooked.
